KUZU annual membership drive
KUZU is a nonprofit, freeform radio station broadcasting with community support from downtown Denton since 2017. You can listen to KUZU over the air at 92.9FM in central Denton, and online worldwide at kuzu.fm.
Currently, about 60 Dentonites volunteer as producers, creating local programs and unique playlists that air 24 hours a day, year-round. Many other volunteers have produced programs in the seven years KUZU has been on the air. The station regularly accepts proposals for new local programs—and provides new producers the training and mentoring that ensures their programs are successful.
KUZU is part of a new cohort of thousands of radio stations across the country that are serving their communities with local programs and public safety information. For many years, activists worked to create this new class of radio stations, called low-power FM, which were authorized by federal law in 2010. Low-power FM stations are capped at 100 watts, limiting their broadcast radius to about 3 miles—which covers much of Denton.
The Federal Communications Commission invited its first round of applications for new LPFM licenses in 2013. KUZU was among the first group of stations granted this new kind of license. It would be another ten years before the FCC invited its second round of applications for low-power FM.
KUZU is all-volunteer and supported financially by people who contribute to the station as underwriters or members.
With the help and support of the community at large, KUZU can remain Denton’s own radio station for generations to come, serving as a public forum for artistic expression, music, debate, and local affairs. This weekend, Local News invites you to join this merry band by becoming a regular listener and, to the degree you are able, by offering your time, treasures and talents.
(Pro tip: they offer the coolest membership merch in town.)

The draft plan was supposed to be released April 3, but an agency official told Local News that it will now be released on April 17. More information at hhs.texas.gov.
